The One UN initiative in Viet Nam
Viet Nam is the leading Pilot Country for the application of One UN at country level. The participating UN Agencies and the Government leadership hold a shared belief that the UN has a vital role to play in Viet Nam’s development, and that it can fulfil its mission more effectively as a harmonized organisation. For the UN to deliver the best results for Viet Nam, a transformed UN with unity of purpose, coherence in management and efficiency and effectiveness in operations is required. The One UN Initiative has made considerable progress.
One Plan
The One Plan combines and synthesizes the work of the 14 participating UN organizations in Viet Nam within a single planning framework.
Agriculture and Rural Development in the One Plan
The basis of the One Plan is a Results and Resources Framework which tabulates the Outcomes, Outputs and Activities that make up the 5-year programme. Outcomes are intended to be real results, such as a measured reduction in poverty, which can be monitored and verified from available data sources such as Government statistics. Outcomes are high level results and the following five One Plan Outcomes were agreed with the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The Future Role of FAO and the UN
Within the changing scenario as Vietnam progresses towards middle income status and further economic development, the role of the specialized agencies of the UN is to provide the highest quality policy, economic and technical advice to the Government and people of Vietnam using all the available resources of the UN system and respecting the particular stated mandates of the UN Organizations and thereby avoiding overlap and duplication of action.
