The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has been working in Vietnam since 1978 to provide technical assistance and policy advice to the Government on issues of agricultural and rural development. For the past thirty years, FAO in Vietnam has helped small and medium scale farmers and the rural poor, including women and ethnic minorities, to enhance their livelihoods through the supply of agriculture related information and technical know-how. Vietnam’s emergence as an economic success in recent years has triggered rapid structural changes in the rural area and agricultural sector.
Recognizing the complex nature of successful development and the emerging challenges and opportunities of Vietnam’s transition, FAO mobilizes, provides and shares with the government an extensive range of highly qualified experts - agronomists, foresters, fisheries and livestock specialists, nutritionists, food quality experts, social scientists, gender specialists, economists, statisticians and other professionals - to ensure that the contribution made by FAO to Vietnam’s success is target-specific, effective and beneficial, reaching all levels of the country’s population.
